Stone's Throw Brewing
Stone’s Throw Brewing is the product of four guys—Theron Cash, Brad McLaurin, Shawn Tobin and Ian Beard—who met in the local homebrew club, the Central Arkansas Fermenters. Their original location, the MacPark Brewpub & Biergarten located at 402 E 9th St in Little Rock, began brewing operations on July 4, 2013 and opened an onsite taproom on August 1, 2013. Their second location, the Stone’s Throw Stifft Station Taproom, opened May 7, 2019. Stone’s Throw Brewing specializes in small-batch, artisanal beers that are both creative and drinkable.

Common Gruit, a Stone's Throw and Lost Forty collaboration, is a gruit-inspired ale brewed with local Tulsi Holy Basil, malted oats, and a blend of Dunbar and Abbey ale yeast. The Tulsi was grown at Common Roots Cooperative in Little Rock, AR. The aroma of Common Gruit is characterized by complimentary sweet and spicy notes of licorice, lavender, rose, white pepper, and orange blossom. Flavors follow suit and are rounded out by the soft, light, and grainy flavor of oats. The finish is spritzy, dry, and refreshing with minimal Tulsi bitterness. Collaborative Release. We're resurrecting an extinct style as our world premiere recipe for November! Alles Mögliche--roughly translated as "everything but the kitchen sink"--Dampfbier is a recreation of a historic German style used by breweries to clean out their pantries. Instead of using specific grain and hop varieties, brewers would toss in whatever ingredients they had on hand and ferment with a faster working ale yeast. The result is akin to a hefeweizen with the characteristic haziness and banana-clove flavor of the yeast, but the lack of wheat produces a dryer finish. Limited Release. OG 1048, IBU 20, ABV 5%

A dark reddish copper color & roasty malt flavor reflect its roots in English Porters, but the sweet flavors & high alcohol come from Russian influences and the finish is clean & dry like a good German lager. Traditionally brewed in cooler climes like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Latvia & Lithuania, Baltic Porter is a perfect pairing for a cold winter day wherever you travel. Our world premiere recipe for April 2019 has been a year in the making! Dos Cabras Doppelbock has been aging in a Rock Town Wheat Whiskey barrel since Lent 2018 with a special addition: traditional souring agent pediococcus damnosus. The result is tart but not overpowering with a nice mellow finish. Originally brewed by monks in Munich, doppelbock sustained the fathers during their Lenten fasts. This tart twist on the classic lager is a one of a kind experience you will not want to miss!

Black Hops is our interpretation of a newer beer style called Cascadian Dark Ale that originated in the Northwestern United States. It is an American IPA loaded with hop varieties from that region of the country; however, this is not your ordinary AIPA with the grain bill resembling that of an English Porter. The flavor is a balanced citrus-like hop bitterness with noticeable roasted malt and chocolate notes. A nice dry finish with a very present present hoppy aroma. Available December-February. We love Old World wheat beers here at Stone’s Throw, and for our tenth style from the German tradition we’ve brewed a deceptively easy drinking giant! Light Weizenbock is Inspired by head brewer Theron Cash’s trip to the Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (aka Weihenstephaner) near Munich, one of the most respected brewers of German wheat beers. Along with kristal, hefe & dunkel, Weihnstephaner brews a stronger “Vitus” single-bock weissbier. Our version of this weizenbock is essentially a double hefeweizen, keeping the light, hazy appearance and characteristic flavors from the yeast but with twice the alcohol. The Weihenstephaner version is named for St. Vitus, patron saint of entertainers and epillectics; we call ours Crescentia, the name of Vitus’s nanny and fellow martyr in reverence to the original! Barleywine is a beast of a beer: at 10% ABV it's tied with Magnum Trip Belgian Tripel as the strongest brew we make, and at 90 IBU it's tied with Amarillo Warrior Imperial IPA as the hoppiest. This full-bodied beer don't mess around. A strong dose of malt helps check the intensity of the hops and alcohol to even it all out. But for a truly great Barleywine, it all needs to mellow out for months on end to smooth out the sharp favors. For this purpose we used a Crown Royal Reserve barrel from our friends at 107 Liquor; we think you'll like the resulting balance of hop, malt, alcohol, wood & whiskey goodness! Barrel Aged Release. When Father Jacques Marquette left his childhood home in Northern France, he had no idea he’d be the first Frenchman to visit a place now called Arkansas. He also had no idea that centuries later a tiny brewery in said place would name a beer in his honor. Little Rock’s first brewers were German-born Alexander and Henry George who operated a biergarten in the mid-1800s on Rock Street. The George brothers came from a warmer region of Germany which suggests that their beer would have been similar to Belgian style farmhouse ales. Additional research revealed which brewing ingredients would have been locally available to the George brothers in 1841. Heritage malts and local honey bring terroir to this historic brew. Kentucky Waterfall Common Beer is a true American original. Produced between the Civil War and Prohibition, it was the predominant style sold in Louisville, KY. Sadly, the style died with prohibition, as the larger breweries focused on lagers when brewing was re-legalized. Kentucky Common pours a light brown and has a sweet grainy, corn-like aroma. The flavor is similar to a Cream Ale, due to the high proportion of corn typically used to thin the body to make this a more sessionable style. What do you get when you serve a young lager that hasn’t had time to age? A Kellerbier! More of a serving method than a specific beer, a kellerbier can originate from pilsners, marzens, alts, etc. We chose a bock as our base style, with a deep copper color and higher abv. The result is a hazy brew with a pronounced bite from the bittering hops and a number of subtle flavors that typically disappear with a more complete lagering process. Named for Gustav Kleinschmidt, the last owner of Papa Geyer’s beer hall & garden located a block from the brewery in the early 1900’s and whose house still stands in the nearby Pettaway Neighborhood of Little Rock. All the other ingredients are exactly the same as Bernoulli, but the result is more of a brown ale. We helped out the good folks of New South Produce Coop with a dinner they were doing last fall, and they rewarded us with great local pecans. Of course we had to make a beer out of this special ingredient, and the result was such a hit we decided to put it in the rotation! The pecans greet you with their aroma as soon as this beautiful copper colored beer is poured, and the nutty flavor follows through with every sip. Roggenbier is similar to a dunkelweizen but is brewed with rye malt instead of wheat. Ripple effect is no different. It is brewed with rye as more than half the grain bill and then fermented with a classic hefeweizen yeast. This produces the fruity light esters associated with a classic hefeweiss, but with an added spiciness from the rye, almost reminiscent of rye bread. Barleywine is a beast of a beer: at 10% ABV it's tied with Magnum Trip Belgian Tripel as the strongest brew we make, and at 90 IBU it's tied with Amarillo Warrior Imperial IPA as the hoppiest. This full-bodied beer don't mess around. A strong dose of malt helps check the intensity of the hops and alcohol to even it all out. But for a truly great Barleywine, it all needs to mellow out for months on end to smooth out the sharp favors. For this purpose we used three separate Rock Town Distillery Wheat Whiskey barrels and then blended the finished product together. Our friend Anna McClung from the USDA-Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center in Stuttgart asked us to brew an experimental batch of beer with a new variety of rice she’d been working on. Full of antioxidants from it’s red bran, this “Scarlett” rice proved pretty to look out without adding any color to the finished brew. The small city of Cottbus is the home of some unique gems: Sorbian culture and Kottbusserbier! This historic local beer style--featuring oats, honey & molasses--was made illegal with German unification and became extinct for over a century until a handful of American craft brewers resurrected it. Making a beer this rare calls for a celebration, and we drew inspiration for the name from the Zapust festivals held in Sorbian communities near Cottbus ahead of spring sowing. Born in Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart spent most of his professional career in Vienna. Similarly, the original amber lager was born in Austria but is most famous for its life in Mexico via immigrants in the 1800s. A healthy dose of Vienna malt gives Amadeus a soft, elegant complexity, and Noble hops provide just enough bitterness for balance. Amadeus is refreshingly perfect for a float down the Danube or a climb up Colima alike. Available Year-Round. Common Sense is our particular spin on the California Common, better known as a "steam" beer - an American west coast original style. Before the advent of refrigeration, steam beers were fermented with a lager yeast, but at temperatures more suited for ales, to take advantage of the mild weather found in the San Francisco bay area. Instead of the typical hop profile, we selected Nelson Sauvin to add in a unique hop flavor to compliment this medium-bodied and slightly malty/fruity beer. Barleywine is a monster of a beer: at 10% ABV it's one of the strongest brews we make, and at 100 IBU it’s also one of the hoppiest! This full-bodied beer don't mess around. A strong dose of malt helps check the intensity of the hops & alcohol to even it all out. But for a truly great Barleywine, it all needs to mellow out for months on end to smooth out the sharp favors. For this purpose we used a Rock Town Distillery Peated Malt Bourbon Barrel from their specialty malt series. You’ll want to rip into the resulting balance of hop, malt, alcohol, wood & whiskey goodness like a beast! Barrel Aged Release. O.G. 1100, IBU 100, ABV 10%

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery -- Copy that. We teamed up with our friends at Damgoode Brews to REBEL against traditional beer and put something unique in our KETTLE. ‘We Copied That’ pours a medium amber with a firm malt backbone. The lactic sourness blends well to really showcase the citrus notes in this heavily-hopped American Pale ale. It finishes smooth, without leaving a bitter taste in your mouth; a close parallel to the friendship among local brewers. Collaborative Release. OG 1062, IBU 41, ABV 5.5%
