At Public Coast, everyone is welcome– especially beer lovers of all stripes. Kick back on our patio, grab a stool at the wrap-around bar, or watch the beer being made through the windows of the brewery.
HOW IT STARTED
So how did a kid who grew up in Palm Desert, with an obsession with an obscure British soccer team that’s matched only by his love of the Portland Timbers, come to open a brewery in Cannon Beach?
Twenty-some years ago, Ryan Snyder was living in Las Vegas running taps in the back bar of Holy Cow Brewery for entrepreneur and Vegas legend Tom Wisner. The aroma of hops, the bright tanks and the buzz of a brewery in action left an indelible mark and he decided that one day he’d open a brewery.
Fast forward past meeting the “Girl from Cannon Beach,” joining the Martin family business, a restaurant gig, a bartending gig, a wedding, some kids, two hotels (The coastal luxe Stephanie Inn and the more family-oriented Surfsand Resort) and finally purchasing Clark’s Restaurant which as Ryan looked around, he thought “hmm… this will be the perfect spot for a brewery someday.” He honed his skills in hospitality and waited until the time was right.

Many years ago, on a trip to Mexico City, our master brewer Will fell in love with the flavors of his adopted home. Yes, tequila was involved. And so was a woman. “Mama,” as she’s called by family and friends alike, is not just the family matriarch, she’s a legend in the mole world. Moles are complex, time-consuming, and incredibly unique to every region. Mama’s mole paste blends rich chocolate with spicy chilis and several ingredients so classified, those who discovered them had to enter Witness Protection. Not one to challenge fate, Will created instead an homage in the form of an imperial brown ale. Aged in a tequila barrel, and flavored with Mama’s heady chili-chocolate mole, our Imperial brown goes out with love and gratitude to Mama.

Look it up.) of chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and vanilla notes. With a taste this big, we may never go home again.

When local, coastal mountain bike group, the North Coast Trail Alliance, and Klootchy Creek Trails needed funding for building and maintaining local mountain bike trails as well as increasing accessibility we jumped at the chance to help out. Pelican, Public Coast, and Fort George worked together on a beer perfect for drinking after a hard day's ride and Single Track Session IPA was born. Bursting with grapefruit, lime, and citrus peel hop aromas, followed by a light bready malt backbone for balance this beer is delicious pint after pint.
