Grain: 2 Row, Vienna, Munich, Caramel 45, Black Prinz Hops: Chinook, Amarillo, Jarylo Yeast: American Ale ABV: 6.5 IBUs: 65 We so love India Black Ales and it was due time to bring out another. This is the second IBA in the 4D series and we came out swinging with a load of Amarillo & Jarylo hops backed by just the right amount of Chinook. Balance is always key to any beer, especially India style ales, and our aim on 4D V.20 was a very drinkable but hop present experience. The variety of malts provides complexity and color without over powering the trio of hops.

We came about this version of 4D by unconventional means. The classic case of a best laid plan that takes you down a different path. The upshot is that we all win for it. Not only do we have a new 4D but we set our sights hoppier for Insanity Plea Ale. 4D v.17 called Riggs was originally brewed to be our upcoming release Insanity Plea Ale, a Double IPA of Insane hoppiness. Despite copious amounts of hops throughout the brewing process, what has translated to the glass is Insanity Plea Ale’s excessively hopped but just short of insane brother, hence the Riggs moniker. We all know Riggs from Lethal Weapon was crazy but not necessarily insane. Aromatically Riggs gives a glimpse of the hop crazy that is coming your way. Tropical fruit and backnotes of earthy spice. A solid malt foundation and smooth upfront bitterness. Once you’ve committed yourself further, the bitterness builds and you realize this beer is definitely on the crazier side of hoppy. Orangy-red in color with aromas of tropical fruit and earthy spice. A balanced caramel sweet malt character makes way for the assertive hop bitterness

Name - 3 Amigos India Brown Ale Grain - 2-row; Munich; Chocolate Wheat; Caramel 55 Hops - Warrior; Cascade; Chinook; Saphir; El Dorado Yeast - American Ale ABV - 6.5% IBU - 65 calculated So in version 14 of the 4D we were expecting guest brewers and wanted to make something a little off the beaten path of the IPA category. We’ve brewed India Black Ales so we thought we’d jump head first into it’s cousin the India Brown Ale. The aforementioned guests were some friends visiting from Nashville just out for a Jailhouse Brewing experience. Jim, Wes and Kenny wanted to get their hands dirty so the 3 Amigos was born. This dark brown India ale features a variety of hops and delivers on hop character. The El Dorados can be somewhat pungent and overbearing so we chose to use them with caution. What we ended up with was licorice, pine and citrus notes mixed with a very distinctive hop aroma and flavor profile. There is most definitely a piney resin flavor that leaves your palate thirsty for another sip.

We’re diggin’ the trend of the lighter hopped IPAs coming out so v.15 of the 4D follows in those footsteps. Visually the beer looks much lighter in flavor so it is somewhat deceiving when it gives you a nice little hop tap to the palate. We called it Trading Places keeping with the 80’s pop culture theme and the concept of the hoppier taste Trading Places with the lighter colored beer. Plus, we just love that move. Light sunshiny yellow with just a tint of orange, Trading Places will signal your taste buds that you’re in for a lighter bodied pounder. Aromatically you are warned there is more to this beer. Bright citrus orange blends with fleshy stone fruit such as peach and mango. In the distance is a hint of muscadine. On the palate you instantly realize this is no palate washer. Bitterness makes way for the spicy rye note all wrapped up in a medium bodied blast of hop goodness. Orange meets peach and mango with a hint of muscadine. Hop bitterness makes way for spicy rye flavors all wrapped in a medium bodied blast of juicy hop goodness.

It's cold, wet, we've even had some snow here in metro Atlanta. Days like these, the thought of a tropical paradise brings some relief to the cold dreary days of winter. You know the place, white sandy beaches, bikinis and palm trees. Maybe even a fruity drink with an umbrella in it. This is the thought behind Jailhouse Brewing's first installment from the 4D series in 2015. Dry hopped with axacca, huell melon, and galaxy. Known as some of the most tropical heavy hops available. Warm orange color, this 4D "Tropical" goes deep, deep, deep, deep into the tropical flavors of passion fruit, pineapple, mango, and hints of fresh squeezed orange juice with just the first sip. Medium bodied with a smooth and silky del, slightly bitter on the finish. This 4D release is what Jimmy Buffet writes his songs about.
