'Never mix grape and grain' - we're breaking the cardinal rule again for the second vintage of our grape harvest beer. Chateau Aro, a dark rubescent ale, conditioned on the freshly crushed juice and skins of pinot noir grapes, then aged in French Oak barrels, all from the award winning Escarpment Winery. And the result of this unholy union? Rich, complex and surprising. Remember, beer then wine, you'll be fine.

Hops - Nelson Sauvin Trial Hop 1 61 other experimental hop varieties The Amazing Hop Boy, he's got hops for brains. - tasting notes: There is no hiding the fact that this is a beer that uses wet hops, the first introduction on the nose is like putting your face in a bursting sack of freshly picked, sticky, earthy, wet hops. An enveloping aroma that resembles a pine forest, with heavy resin-like qualities, understandable given the vast plethora of wet hops involved in Hopboy's creation. Soft malts on the palate allow a full bodied mouth feel to facilitate a refreshing citrusy sweetness that can be felt prickling the tongue as the lupulin says a whole cone hello.

Angry Peaches aims to create an American style pale ale with an aggressive stone fruit character with absurd amounts of the hard to find Amarillo hop. Angry is the new nice.

Aro Noir is a pitch black and full flavoured stout. At its heart is a blend of four malts, with Columbus and Summit hops, creating a citric bitterness and aroma that marries nicely with the roast malt character. Yes, it is inspired by the darkness of a Wellington winter in Aro Valley, but truly it is a stout for all seasons. Join us on the dark side.

A beer needs to be dressed in the best. Poor Baltic Porter, favourite tipple of the Czars and one of our most popular dark beers, never had a stitch to wear. But now the face of Baltic is bear not bare, naked no longer thanks to the irreverent creative mischief of local gone global art collective & clothing brand ALC.

Beyond the Pale, each year a new brew, something special, a little ‘out there’, even a bit bizarre for the New Zealand Fringe Festival. For this year’s avant grade offering we present Fringe Fruit. At its heart the same malts, but this year we’ve soured the brew and infused it with cucumber, finger limes and mint. It’s certainly strange, but it’s also uniquely refreshing. Brewed well outside our safety zone, especially for the 2016 New Zealand Fringe Festival.

Belgian Blond Ale7.8% ABV

Brightside is a strong blonde ale - a companion to Aro Noir that is as bright as the other is dark. The ingredients are deceptively simple - just Belgian Pilsner malt, candy sugar and the French hop Aramis. The bright golden result though is far from simple with restrained spice, floral notes and maybe even the slightest hint of bubblegum. Beware, it is deceptively drinkable for its not insubstantial strength of 7.8%. Always look on the bright side.

A refreshingly simple and clean malt base, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe and Kohatu hops, spiked with pineapple and sour cherry for an exotic explosion of citrus and tropical fruit aromas. This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you haven't, you might be missing out on a life changing experience. A fusion of American-style pale ale and South-East Asian flavours of mango, lime, Vietnamese mint and chili. This a beer of harmony, not of conflict.

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Humulus Lupulus, the wolf bine can be fierce, but L'il Red Rye, the grain at the heart of this beer, has more than enough character to run with the wolves. Amarillo and Simcoe hops combine with the earthy spice of rye, and richness of Munich and caramel malts to create a beer that is well worth a short cut through the woods.

Lola - a cherry cola beer. Beginning life as a Dunkel, then with addition of cola nut, (sourced thanks to our friends at Karma Cola), sour cherries, bitter citrus, vanilla and cinnamon. I quite enjoy Karen G.'s comment on untapped "embrace the strange" as, without a word of a lie, Lola really is like drinking cherry cola. Also I think it is worth mentioning 20 cents from the sale of each can is goes back to Boma, Sierra Leone where the cola nuts were sourced from.

From propagation to packaging the yeast in Resonance has been, in sequence, sonically stimulated, energised and then soothed with a specially curated selection of classical music played directly into the beer using a submersible speaker.
