Our first ever and most beloved brew, ESA helped establish a following for cask-conditioned beer in the United States back in the ‘90s. East Kent Golding hops give this English style ale a subtle spiciness, which compliments its strong malt backbone. Hints of chocolate and caramel round out this deep chestnut colored ale. Floral, earthy, smooth.

Detailed in a letter from the General to his officers during the war, Washington’s recipe employed molasses to aid fermentation and give rich caramel notes to this robust, roasty ale. The recipe reflected his admiration for Philadelphia-style porters, especially those brewed by Robert Hare (whose original brewery stood just blocks from where ours is now). Our Tavern Porter, inspired by Washington’s, is dark, smooth, and complex with just a hint of dried fruit in the finish.

Olde Bart was a free spirit who bent elbows with the best of ‘em. We’ve made this amber-hued, English-style Barleywine ale for characters like him. Brewed with 100% Maris Otter malt (a traditional floor-malted English barley), noble hops and traditional British pale and crystal malts, this unfiltered winter warmer is strong and inviting with complex fruity flavors and a slight hop spice in the finish. Just a few sips are sure to arouse the character in all of us.
