Renegade Berbere Stout

Berbere is a curry native to Ethiopia and is usually used on meat and in savory dishes. How did we decide to put it in a beer? Our friends at Novo Coffee discovered this spice through their relationship with coffee growers in Ethiopia. They decided to use the savory spice in some of their mocha and cappuccino drinks. On a visit to a Novo Coffee Shop, our founder Brian tried one of these drinks and decided to try to emulate the complex flavor combinations in a beer. Berbere Stout is brewed with chocolate, coffee roasted malt (barley), and berbere spice.
