Each year the Eugene Beer Community comes together to forge a collaboration in support of our local NPR affiliate, Eugene's KLCC Public Radio. As the collaboration took us on a Tour of the World, we "landed" with our friends at the Cascade Brewers Society in Jamaica. Together we crafted a Foreign Export Stout. This strong stout is comprised of a complex grist bill of multiple types roasted and kilned barley, and rolled oats. It was further combined with brown sugar and a small dosage of hops in the boil, as well as a traditional English yeast strain for fermentation.
After fermentation had subsided we transferred the beer onto house toasted organic coconut. Delectably smooth, our Tropical Stout starts with deep notes of chocolate and molasses, with a slight tinge of coffee and roast. It finishes with a light but a delicious hit of the toasted coconut, and a slight warmth from the elevated alcohol.
Dark and robust enough to get us through the cold of winter with a flavor to remind us of the warmth in the months ahead!
