Our release for Tuesday March 6th, after a 17 month hiatus, marks the triumphant return of Imperial O'Dark. Our once beloved spring Black IPA was retired in 2014. In the fall of 2016 it was resurrected as an imperialized version for our 10th Anniversary celebration.
For the newest rendition we decided what is already a hybrid of styles and make an extra oxymoronic "Black Hazy IPA." We took our classic hazy IPA recipe; stuffed with gobs of wheat and oats; and added a debittered black malt for color. We then crushed it with late kettle and whirlpool additions of Citra CO2 Extract Oil. After fermentation, we dry-hopped the beer with at 50/50 blend of Citra and Nelson Sauvin at the irresponsible rate of 9 lbs/bbl.
A nose of coffee and chocolate collide with bright tropical dank fruit. The palate is hit with waves of sticky hops oils, notes of papaya, tangerine, passion fruit and gooseberry, and slight chocolate roastiness. A smooth and creamy mouthfeel meets a balanced bitterness to finish a complex drinking experience.
