Brewed each year in commemoration of Eugene's Sasquatch Brewfest and in honor of the late Glen Hay Falconer for whom the fest is named, Hop Vice is a culmination of each prior year of experimentation, learning and progression in making hoppy beer. For 2018 we follow in the path of the 2017 version of hazy DIPA.
Beginning with a grist bill layered with luciously soft malted and rolled out, dextrin malt and a touch of caramel to produce a pillowymouthfeel and full body. We then give it a one, two punch of Mosaic hop oil in the kettle and whirlpool before sending the wort of to the fermenter where it meets our wonderful "hazy" yeast strain.
After fermentation we hit it with three massive dry-hops; one with Hallertau Blanc, one Mosaic Cryo hops, and finally with New Zealand grown Nelson Sauvin (one of our favorite varieties). The transpiring beer is a transmission of dank tropical fruit, bright white wine grapes, intensely fruit-forward berry character, and a balanced bitterness across the palate.
Each year a thank you and remembrance to a local brewer whose influence expands wholly across the US brewing community. A continued influence to many, including dozens who never had the opportunity to meet him, but because of his impact has had the opportunity to expand their brewing knowledge and expertise through education. We raise a glass to Glen!
