Schwarzbier ("shvahrts-beer"), is simply German for black beer. This beer pours a frothy tan head and an almost opaque, reddish-black color. The roast character is rather hushed, with malt aromatics of licorice, vanilla and toffee. Creamy in the mouthfeel, with a well-rounded flavor of malt, cocoa, medium-low hop bitterness and reserved roast. This schwarzbier relies more on dark malt and less on roast for its balance and silky character. Having a low ABV means that it is quite sessionable and refreshing, don’t let its color fool you, it is a very light beer. Prost!
