Abita Baltic Porter - Barrel Aged In Pappy Van Winkle

Bourbon Street Baltic Porter is a porter that is aged in Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrels. It is brewed with a combination of pale, caramel, and roasted malts. It is fermented at cooler temperatures to accentuate the flavors of the malt. The caramel and roasted malts give the beer its dark color and sweet roasted flavor.

After fermentation the beer is cold aged for 4 weeks. This is typical of the style and allows the flavors of the malt and hops to balance and produce a very smooth flavor. After it is cold aged the beer is transferred into the bourbon barrels, then aged for another 8 weeks to absorb all of the flavors from the barrels. The result is a robust porter that brings out the sweet and roasted flavors from the malt and the warming bourbon flavors from the barrels.
